Child Protection Center
It seems cruel to even include the words “children” and “abuse” in the same sentence. But sadly, thousands of child abuse and neglect cases are reported statewide every year. That’s why at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St.Vincent, our Child Protection Team is helping children who are suspected of being abused or neglected. The team’s mission is to assure safe, healthy and nurturing families and communities where all children can reach their full potential. Because we believe all children deserve to feel safe and protected.
Providing Compassionate Care
The St.Vincent Child Protection Team provides medical evaluation services for children when abuse or neglect is suspected. The hospital-based program offers physical examinations and interviews in a child-friendly environment, by a multidisciplinary diagnostic team of medical professionals. The team collaborates with other medical specialists, community agencies and law enforcement officials for the treatment concerns of each child.
The St.Vincent Child Protection Team minimizes the stress on children and their families by providing compassionate care while respecting each individual’s safety, dignity and privacy needs.
Our Expertise:
- Provide specialized medical examinations and documentation
- Consult with physicians and other professionals when maltreatment is suspected
- Coordinate services among providers and community agencies
- Facilitate referral to appropriate community resources
Community Education
In addition to our medically-based child abuse assessment and intervention services, the Child Protection Team is a unique resource available to educate medical professionals and the community about child abuse and its prevention. Programs offered include:
- Educational seminars for medical professionals on identifying and treating child abuse victims
- Training programs for organizations that serve children and youth on recognizing abuse and neglect
- Abusive head trauma prevention presentations
- Body safety education for elementary school children
- Child sexual abuse prevention training for adults
