The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

Knowing that anything that can be done will be done. That’s the confidence you can have should your child ever need constant critical care. Because our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is located in Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St.Vincent, expect it to be different from others of its kind. But know that its most outstanding qualities are to be found within the unit itself:

  • A PICU that is staffed 24 hours a day by physicians specially trained in pediatric intensive care.
  • Respiratory therapists specially trained in pediatric intensive care.
  • A 15-bed unit that includes two extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) rooms

Intensivists: Critical-Care Specialists at a Critical Time

Intensivists are doctors who work only with patients in the intensive care unit. Like the hospitalists, our intensivists are available in the hospital 24/7. Fellowship-trained and board-certified, they are here to care for your child during one of the most difficult times in life. Together with the hospitalists, intensivists ensure that if your child is in Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St.Vincent, he or she is under the care of an experienced, specially trained and intensely dedicated doctor at all hours, day or night.
