Sports Medicine

As more children and teens participate in year-round, organized sporting activities, injuries to these young athletes are on the rise. A recent study by the American Academy of Pediatrics reported that each year more than 3.5 million sports-related injuries requiring medical treatment occur in children under the age of 15. Sports-related injuries are the second leading reason for emergency room visits as well as the second leading cause of injuries in school.

At Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St.Vincent, our pediatric sports medicine specialists take a comprehensive approach to treating pediatric sports injuries, which includes advanced diagnostics, physical therapy and rehabilitation, and when necessary, the latest surgical techniques.

Young athletes also benefit from the multidisciplinary expertise provided by St.Vincent, which offers the largest hospital-based sports medicine program in Indiana. Our sports medicine physicians evaluate and treat athletes from student athletes to weekend warriors to professionals. Over 40 professional teams, universities, junior and senior high schools, clubs and organizations turn to us for our expertise in assessing and treating sports-related injuries. In addition, St.Vincent is the largest employer of certified athletic trainers in the state, and St.Vincent Rehabilitation Services has been ranked #1 in the state for the third consecutive year.
