Pediatric Outpatient Sedation Services
Diagnostic testing and procedures performed in a hospital setting can sometimes be very frightening for children.
The outpatient pediatric sedation team at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St.Vincent is dedicated to providing safe, effective sedation and pain management for young patients undergoing a variety of procedures. Our team works closely with our child life specialists to explain the sedation process to children and parents, and to make the experience as stress-free and comfortable as possible.

What is sedation?
Sedation refers to the process of giving your child special medicine to help him or her fall asleep for a medical procedure. If the procedure is painful, we will also administer pain medicine to relieve the pain.
Pediatric procedures commonly performed with sedation include:
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans
- Computed Tomography (CT) scans
- Electroencephalogram (EEG)
- Bronchoscopy
- Endoscopy
- Lumbar puncture
- PICC line placement
- Minor surgery
